In the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains a chilling cryptid stirs. First reported in McNairy County, TN in 1871, the Tennessee Wildman mysteriously wanders the hills of East Tennessee and the imaginations of its Appalachian residents. The Tennesssee Wildman is a sasquatch-like cryptid, but appears more human with bright red eyes (possibly correlating it with another ambiguous East Tennessee cryptid, the Red-Eyed Demon). The Wildman is said to be anywhere from 7-9 feet tall, with dark gray or ruddy ginger hair, and has a terrible stench. In collaboration with Mythical Writer, Jacob “Wildman” Wilder, Mythical Beards brings you the Tennessee Wildman: Appalachian Mountain Musk.

The most compelling account of the Tennessee Wildman occured in Oakdale, TN in 1891. Then a booming railroad town, nestled between the bends of the Emory River, Oakdale was known (and still is) for its tranquil charm. It was on April 6th, 1891 that Cincinnati Southern railroad conductor, A.O. Harris, frequented the local saloon and had an experience no one would ever forget. Just as the bartender sat his beverage of choice in front of him, Harris hears the doors of the saloon swing open violently. He turns to find a human-like creature before him, covered in coarse, wild hair. His scarlet, wild eyes darted around the bar room, and he foamed at the mouth.

The patrons rushed forward to subdue the beast. At first the Wildman overpowers the patrons, felling several with his savage thrashing. Eventually, however, Harris and company are able to restrain the Wildman with shackles and lock him away in a train car. The Wildman howled and struggled though, and was eventually able to peel back part of the railcar’s wall, and escape into the woods.

The latest sighting of the Wildman was by Robb Phillips at the Bee Cliffs in Elizabethton, TN back in the 1990’s, proving that the Tennessee Wildman still stalks the hills of East Tennessee.

Try the Mythical Beards release that tames the Wildman himself. A unique blend of pine, cedar, and balsam creates the backdrop for this mysterious tale, reminiscent of the backwoods of East Tennessee. Woven into that foundation is an earthy orange rind, with deep and mysterious tones of black currant blended together. Mythical Tobacco hangs over this scent like the fog hanging over the Smoky Mountains, providing a rich and complex foil for the aforementioned citrus and fruit tones. Tame the Wildman in your beard, try Mythical Beards latest release Tennessee Wildman: Appalachian Mountain Musk.
